Years ago doctors, nurses and anyone working in the medical field had only one color choice for a uniform: white. The earliest nurses wore a white dress, white cap with a cross or medical insignia and white shoes. This was the standard uniform for nurses while doctors wore white lab coats over their regular clothes.

Medical scrubs have changed over the years to include a variety of styles, colors and prints. Sizes have also been adapted to include X-large, 2X and maternity. Nurses working in pediatric areas can wear colorful cartoon characters like Scooby Doo or Sponge Bob.

When working shifts in a hospital the scrubs provided are a plain scrub top and drawstring pants in classic blue or green. However, you are free to wear your own scrubs if you like.

The main purpose of wearing medical scrubs is to be easily identifiable as medical staff. Scrubs are now the standard uniform of nurses today. Plus they are much more comfortable than the stiff, old-style uniforms. Soft cotton is breathable and moves with you for maximum comfort.

The modern scrub uniforms are stylish and comfortable while keeping a modest price. Scrubs are also very easy to keep clean which makes them an excellent choice for a uniform. Just throw them in the washer and dry as usual. Good quality scrubs will not fade or look ragged from washing.

Nurses in the stiff white uniforms had an air of unapproachability, while nurses with the new scrub uniforms appear cheerful, friendly and inspire patients and visitors to ask questions and engage in conversation. The new uniforms offer a new look at medical staff as being there to help and office valuable advice and assistance.

In times where people avoid going to the hospital due to all the negative opinions, a positive outlook is very welcome.

Cherokee scrubs are not only a great value but they are comfortable and stylish on anybody. These scrubs are great for use everyday or paired with a coordinating top or lab coat for working in children’s areas.

Where to Find Wine Colored Scrubs:

Uniform Shops
The Mall
Discount Stores
Online Stores

When looking for a specific color of scrubs, a good place to check are online retailers and discount shops. Most medical uniform shops are limited when it comes to colors and styles due to popularity. You may have to go to several stores before you find one that the exact color and style you are looking for.

Shopping and buying Cherokee medical scrubs online gives the consumer an advantage that others shoppers do not have. Online medical uniform shops will not have a shortage of desired colors because they can order them to ship straight from the factory. There is no problem with scrubs being out of stock or on back order.

A good way to keep a supply of scrubs on-hand is to stock up and buy extra sets. Choose three to four sets in matching or contrasting colors to get several options for color combinations. Burgundy goes well with gray and white, rose and gray work well together and many other possible combinations you can come up with to have a different uniform look every day of the week. These scrubs are lightweight and comfortable to wear all day and all night.

Scrub/ink.com carries Cherokee scrubs in a variety of colors and sizes to fit everyone, including plus sizes. Choose from three styles and 12 colors to coordinate with uniform clothing and accessories.

Medical scrubs protect nurses and other medical professionals from blood borne pathogens and germs. Doctors, nurses and medical technicians are exposed to germs and bacteria every single day. One way to protect ourselves from these exposures is to wear protective clothing.

Scrubs function not only as nursing uniforms but also serve to protect our clothing from being contaminated by germs. Sick patients expose medical techs and others by sneezing, coughing and through other bodily fluids that can get on our clothes where we would be a carrier of germs.

Hospitals keep scrubs in the doctors and nurses locker rooms to ensure that all personnel are wearing appropriate clothing and that it has been cleaned according to safety regulations. Nurses are required to wear scrubs or nursing uniforms to be recognized as hospital staff to patients and visitors. The scrubs are to be worn for the day and removed before leaving so as not to transport germs and bacteria.

Wearing scrubs is a protection against exposure to many infectious diseases. Nurses visit many patients in a day so that is a lot of people that could be infected by unsanitary practices.

There are many brands of scrubs that are easy to clean and made from a soft material that makes them comfortable to wear for long shifts. If you want something fun and creative, there are designs for scrubs with Disney characters, Scooby Doo and other cartoon favorites for nurses working in children’s units and nurseries. Scrub sets also come in maternity and extra large sizes to fit any body.

Patients often cough, sneeze or vomit unexpectedly and if bodily fluids are splashed on scrubs they are easy to change and launder. In fact, many visiting nurses carry and extra set of scrubs in the car for a quick change when necessary.

Check out all the new medical scrubs sets and stock up with extras for emergencies.

Old nursing scrubs have many purposes. Nurses and those in the medical profession wear their scrubs everyday and eventually they do wear out. When buying new scrubs most people would just throw away the old ones to save space in their closets and drawers but old scrubs have many uses. Of course we know that recycling saves money and reduces the impact on the environment, saving and reusing old scrubs means you are doing your part to help the planet. Here are a few ways to get more use out of your old scrubs:

Painting Clothes

Old worn out clothes are perfect for those weekends when you feel like painting the trim on the house or another diy project. Paint splatters can get on your good clothes so why not make use of your old scubs by wearing them while doing projects where you are sure to get dirty.

Soft, Comfy Pajamas

These make great lounging clothes or pajamas. The more worn they are, the softer they are. Pair the scrub pants with a long sleeve comfy t-shirt or the tops with a pair of shorts for sleeping or working out. They are great for using while exercising or jogging.

Throw Pillows

Convert the tops into throw pillows by cutting the tops straight across and sewing up the neck and bottom. leave a small opening to stuff in the polyfil batting. Sew up the opening and add any design on them or sew-on appliqués. Another use is as tote bags for grocery shopping. Cut the tops to resemble a tank by cutting out the sleeves and making a v-shape at the neckline. Sew up the bottom and use the top straps as a handle.

Halloween Costumes

Old nursing scrubs make great costumes for kids or adults. Dress up as a zombie nurse or an accident victim. Add accessories to make it as realistic as you want.

Kid’s Dress Up Play

Kids love to play dress up as doctors or nurses. A bunch of old costumes can keep kids busy for hours using their imagination. You can pick up accessories for the costumes at thrift stores and consignment shops.

Nursing scrubs are a widely used type of uniform typically seen in hospitals, clinics, medical and dental offices and laboratories. Lab technicians who collect blood samples wear scrubs as part of their uniform as do many employed in the medical field. Scrubs are made of soft, breathable material which provides comfort while working under a variety of stressful settings.

Many medical students are required to wear scrubs while training or anytime they are in the building. This helps the patients and staff to recognize them as belonging to the medical staff. Uniforms are sometimes provided as part of the employees benefits package or as part of a medical students tuition.

There are many good brands of nursing uniforms on the market, Cherokee is one of the leading manufacturers of scrubs in the industry. Cherokee Workwear is designed to be comfortable and stylish at the same time. Nurses and others often wear scrubs for 10-12 hours at a time during long shifts so comfort is a necessity.

When choosing nursing scrubs, find a style or a couple of styles you like and buy multiple sets to avoid rushing around trying to find your uniform when you’re running late. It is a good idea to pack an extra set of scrubs in your duffle bag or keep one in your locker for a quick change when you do not have the time to go home.

The word “uniform” brings to mind images of those nasty green hospital scrubs that nearly every hospital uses. These scrubs are for a single use and are discarded in the laundry bin when the work day is over.

While this is a good method for for those who do not have a washing machine at home, many feel that these are cold and impersonal and may choose to purchase bright, colorful scrub tops and pants to feel more confidant and make the patient feel more trusting toward the student.

No longer do scrubs resemble the one-size-fits -all hospital issue scrubs. Pants are available in a choice of drawstring or elastic design with tops in many colors, styles and patterns. Scrubs come in three styles: original, outlet and signature.

Choose from v-neck, rounded or cross-over collars to solid pocket, plain pocket or no pocket. Choose the one that fits you and your style. Long hours standing, walking and sitting require clothing that resists wrinkles, is easy to care for and dries quickly. Lightweight fabrics dry the fastest and resist wrinkling and bunching.

Women’s scrubs do not have to be the drab, boring green or blue scrubs that you see in hospitals and clinics. For variety match colors to accessories and accents by pairing a blue top with white or tan pants, or a white top with black or blue pants. Mix and match colors with scrub tops, t-shirts and nursing jackets.

Women in all areas of the medical profession will enjoy having a stylish uniform that moves with them, looks good and requires no ironing. Nurses, Orderlies and Dental Assistants work in areas where sick people are and are exposed to their germs on a daily basis. Scrubs are easy to clean, just toss in the laundry, wash and tumble dry.

Being able to work in comfort is something to be envied. You are lucky that you do not have to wear a suit and tie, skirt and heels or other type of business attire to look professional. A nicely paired scrub outfit will make you stand out in the crowd and no matter how bad your day was you will still feel confident that you look your best and portray a feeling of professionalism and personality.

There are many ways to update your current uniform collection. Add a few new scrub tops and pants once every so many weeks to have a good supply on hand.

Not everyone uses the same scrubs year in and year out, but when they do, there’s a reason. Here’s a story from one of our customers.

***

I’ve worked in the same hospital for almost 40 years, and I have been through quite a few different uniforms. When I started, I even had to wear one of those silly little hats that matched my white dress. Let me tell you, they were even less comfortable then they looked. Today, my uniform is a lot better. The charge nurse on our floor told me all about Cherokee scrubs a good 15 years ago, and I’ve never looked back.

I’m not usually one for brand loyalty, especially when it comes to clothes. If I see something that’s my size and good looking and in my budget, I buy it. Cherokee, however, has my loyalty, for a few different reasons. First off, Cherokee scrubs are comfortable! I’m on my feet and moving all day; anything tight or constricting gets really old, really fast. These scrubs almost seem like they’re made for me. They’re definitely crafted with long-time wear in mind.

Another reason I’m so loyal to Cherokee scrubs is their craftsmanship. Like I said, they’re comfortable, but they’re also incredibly durable. I’ve had some scrubs that fall apart in the wash after a month; I’ve even had some that have had a hole punched through the pocket by a ball point pen the first day I wore them! Not a great idea if you’re pulling pens out to write on charts or take notes. Cherokee scrubs tend to hold up to wear and tear a lot better than any other type.

The biggest reason I’m so loyal to Cherokee scrubs is because of their sizing. As vain as it sounds, I think I’m pretty good looking for over 60. However, this came with a lot of hard work. Three years ago I was in a size 3XL for my scrubs. Cherokee covered my butt then – quite literally – but I wasn’t happy. I didn’t want to go under the knife for a laproscopy, so I set about losing weight the old fashioned way: diet and exercise. It worked, and today I’m in a solid L… and still in the exact same style, cut, and color of Cherokee scrubs that I was when I started.

While there’s quite a few different choices for your medical scrubs out there, I have to highly recommend Cherokee scrubs. Their quality, comfort, size range, and craftsmanship put them head and shoulders above the competition.

In these tough economic times, everyone seems to be tightening their financial belts. In one way or another, people are searching for ways to trim costs on everything from food to car costs. This includes required work clothes. While some people have the option to use their everyday wardrobe for their work wardrobe, others – such as medical professionals – must wear required scrubs. Designer medical scrubs are often the best choice; however, some people are turning to making their own scrubs for work. While this sounds like a good idea on the surface, this can often be the wrong choice in the long run.

Why Do People Make Their Own Scrubs?

While making your own scrubs for work might seem like a great way to save money, they can often end up being more expensive than buying designer medical scrubs. People often make their own scrubs for a few reasons – the primary, of course, being the supposed financial savings. However, when you take the cost of fabric, sewing notions, and the time it will take to make the scrubs, the designer medical scrubs often come out as the more cost effective choice.

Are There Benefits To Designer Medical Scrubs Over Homemade?

Along with the overall cost savings, there are other benefits to purchasing designer medical scrubs rather than making your own. One of the most important is the life cycle of the scrubs themselves. Unless you are a master tailor, there is a chance that your homemade scrubs will not have the attention to detail that the manufacturers of designer medical scrubs do. These scrubs are designed with hard wear in mind and the fabrics and stitching are chosen and implemented for heavy wear and wash.

Choosing Designer Medical Scrubs

If making your own scrubs still appeals to you, this is fine! However, you should still consider designer medical scrubs for your work wardrobe – especially if your office has a mandatory dress code. It can be difficult to design scrubs to make at home to meet a specific style, and if your office manager is a stickler for symmetry and matching uniforms, your homemade scrubs might not make the grade. If this is the case, buying the designer medical scrubs that are required may not just save you some money, it might save your job!

While making your own scrubs at home might seem cost effective at first, when you take all of your scrub needs into consideration, the cost may rise to well over the outlay that you would pay for designer medical scrubs. You should take all of your needs into account before making a final decision one way or another.

Have you ever walked into a place of business in need of something, but were unable to tell which of the people inside were the employees? Having an instantly recognizable staff is an important part of any office environment, and no more so than in medical offices. When the entire staff wears medical scrubs and uniforms, patients know who to talk to – and who to trust with their private information.

Instant Recognition

One of the most important parts of having a full office of employees wearing medical scrubs and uniforms is the instant recognition of them by your patients. Having doctors, nurses, and office staff all in medical scrubs and uniforms lets the patient know that they are giving their information to the people who are supposed to get it, and that the exam is being completed by a professional. Even something as simple as a lab coat will put his or her mind at ease.

Professional Appearance

Another great bonus to having the entire office staff in medical scrubs and uniforms is a professional and streamlined appearance. If you have gone into a retail store where all the employees are in matching shirts and pants, you automatically feel more at ease then when they are dressed as they please. This is because the human mind likes to find patterns. Matching medical scrubs and uniforms gives your patients mental comfort because they can find the pattern in employees properly dressed.

Cut Back On Trouble

One excellent reason to dress your office staff in medical scrubs and uniforms is to cut back on dress code violations. While most people know what appropriate dress is for a work environment, there are occasions when an outfit can be called inappropriate for any number of reasons. Mandatory dress code enforcement of medical scrubs and uniforms will cut back on these violations and keep office tensions lower.

While there are shops in many large cities that carry scrubs, it can be hard to find matching medical scrubs and uniforms in sizes that will fit your entire staff. Fortunately, there are high quality websites online that carry a wide range of styles and price ranges, including companies such as Cherokee scrubs, with sizes ranging from XXS to 5XL! With such a wide variety of choices available to you, finding matching medical scrubs and uniforms for your entire staff will be a much easier task than you ever thought possible.

If you need to stock up on an item for your home, you don’t go from store to store, picking and choosing from the selections, right? Why should you do this with your nursing scrubs! Taking the time to make the effort to buy scrubs online will get you not only the widest variety, but also some of the best prices available. However, before you make any purchase, you have to make sure you’re getting the right size! When you know the tricks to sizing scrubs online, you’ll never have to make another return again.

Do It Yourself

The most common way that people buy scrubs online when attempting to size is by using the sizing chart that companies often provide. This is a list that equates the size of your body in inches or centimeters with the size of the scrubs. So, for example, a small would be a 32-34” chest, a medium would be a 34-36” chest, and so on.

Learn From Experience

If you are a repeat customer, the best way to size your scrubs before you buy scrubs online is to simply take a look at the sizing tag of your older scrubs – especially if you are just replacing worn pieces with new ones of the same brand and style. This can be a bit dangerous, however: some sizes, even within the same brand, can vary greatly.

Take It Into Your Own Hands

For some people, the only way they will buy scrubs online is if they know exactly how they fit first. This group will eschew sizing scrubs online and instead go to stores that sell scrubs and physically try them on until they find the ones that fit the best. They will then return home and make a purchase on the internet. While this route does ensure correct sizing completely, it can also be incredibly time consuming, in addition to potentially futile: there’s no guarantee you will find the scrubs you want in your size to try on in the first place!

Knowing how to size yourself is a very important part of the process when you buy scrubs online. Taking the time to get proper measurements will ensure that you won’t have to make size-related return shipments, and will also cut the time it takes you to actually place the order in the first place!
