Old nursing scrubs have many purposes. Nurses and those in the medical profession wear their scrubs everyday and eventually they do wear out. When buying new scrubs most people would just throw away the old ones to save space in their closets and drawers but old scrubs have many uses. Of course we know that recycling saves money and reduces the impact on the environment, saving and reusing old scrubs means you are doing your part to help the planet. Here are a few ways to get more use out of your old scrubs:
Painting Clothes
Old worn out clothes are perfect for those weekends when you feel like painting the trim on the house or another diy project. Paint splatters can get on your good clothes so why not make use of your old scubs by wearing them while doing projects where you are sure to get dirty.
Soft, Comfy Pajamas
These make great lounging clothes or pajamas. The more worn they are, the softer they are. Pair the scrub pants with a long sleeve comfy t-shirt or the tops with a pair of shorts for sleeping or working out. They are great for using while exercising or jogging.
Throw Pillows
Convert the tops into throw pillows by cutting the tops straight across and sewing up the neck and bottom. leave a small opening to stuff in the polyfil batting. Sew up the opening and add any design on them or sew-on appliqués. Another use is as tote bags for grocery shopping. Cut the tops to resemble a tank by cutting out the sleeves and making a v-shape at the neckline. Sew up the bottom and use the top straps as a handle.
Halloween Costumes
Old nursing scrubs make great costumes for kids or adults. Dress up as a zombie nurse or an accident victim. Add accessories to make it as realistic as you want.
Kid’s Dress Up Play
Kids love to play dress up as doctors or nurses. A bunch of old costumes can keep kids busy for hours using their imagination. You can pick up accessories for the costumes at thrift stores and consignment shops.
